Join us for an event focused on advocacy surrounding periods — from individual advocacy to legislative advocacy. Hear from former North Carolina State Senator Mary Wills Bode on her experience talking about ‘taboo’ topics surrounding women’s health. We know that talking comfortably about periods is important for both the individual and the community as a whole, but sometimes it is difficult. Senator Bode has lots of experience talking about women’s health issues in spaces that they aren’t normally talked about (such as the North Carolina legislature!) Join us to hear her expertise and tips on how to navigate these conversations!
Mary Wills Bode is the former Senator for Senate District 18, which is comprised of Northern Wake and Granville Counties. In the Senate, she served on the Transportation Committee, State and Local Government Committee, Pensions and Retirement and Aging Committee, and the Appropriations on General Government and Information Technology. She is an attorney, specializing in capital markets and leveraged finance, and has also been a non-profit executive director, where she led a bipartisan coalition for redistricting reform. She previously served as a member of the North Carolina Real Estate Commission, appointed by Governor Roy Cooper to represent members of the public. She is a graduate of Wake Forest University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.
At this event, we will also make ‘period packs’ with feminine hygiene supplies and information on women’s bleeding disorders to donate to local public schools. Attendees will receive dinner as well.
