The Bleeding Disorders Foundation of North Carolina invites you and your immediate family to join us for the Summer Community Retreat. We’re heading out to the beautiful Crystal Coast, also called the Southern Outer Banks. Enjoy a weekend to learn and share experiences about managing and living with a bleeding disorder.
Retreat activities will be at the Crystal Coast Civic Center, overlooking the Intra Coastal Waterway. Hotel accommodations are less than a mile down the road at the Hampton Inn Morehead City.

Accommodations and meals will be provided at NO COST to BDFNC families, thanks to the generous support of our sponsors and donors. Travel assistance is also available. Programming will take place on Saturday and Sunday, concluding after lunch on Sunday afternoon. Included in your registration is:
- Hotel accommodations (one room per family) at the Hampton Inn Morehead City on Friday and Saturday nights
- Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday
- Breakfast and lunch on Sunday
- All planned agenda sessions and social activities
- Childcare and teen activities
- Gas cards will be available upon request for all attendees
- Visit to the NC Aquarium (optional activity)

While the agenda is still being finalized, we would like to highlight our keynote speaker this year! We have two excellent speakers from GutMonkey who will deliver our engaging keynote and teen programming during the retreat.
Interpretation services will be provided for our Spanish-speaking community members for most sessions.
Keynote Session Highlight
Join GutMonkey for an interactive and engaging session that will have you up, moving, and connecting with community members. During this session, you’ll utilize the Be Brave Lab to explore shared decision making with a focus on knowledge, curiosity, and advocacy. You’ll enter our “lab” to get hands-on experience utilizing games, community-building activities, and active conversations to experiment with different tools and concoct your own shared decision-making process that you can take with you beyond our time together. GutMonkey’s programs have a history of giving people skills to engage with others more thoughtfully, live their values more comprehensively, and to play more often – so we’re excited to see you at the Be Brave Lab! This session is part of the Leading Edge program and is sponsored by Pfizer.
Teen Program Description
Join GutMonkey for the Leading Edge teen program! For this year’s Leading Edge program, participants will utilize the Be Brave Lab to explore shared decision making with a focus on KNOWLEDGE (know what you want!), CURIOSITY (ask questions!), and ADVOCACY (stand up for your needs and wants!). Participants will enter our “lab” to gain hands-on experience utilizing games, community-building activities, and active conversations, experimenting with different tools and devising their own shared decision-making process that they can apply to provider meetings and beyond. It’s not all serious stuff! We’ll have you laughing, up on your feet, and maybe even making some new friends. We’ll bring the surprises and the fun, you just bring yourself. This session is part of the Leading Edge program and is sponsored by Pfizer.

Childcare Overview
Childcare will be separated by age and will be provided by Nancy’s Nannies again this year. During the adult and teen sessions, the younger kids will participate in fun and engaging activities. Now it’s time to get out and play in the summer weather!
*Apart from our general programming, an optional visit to the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores is also planned.
